MORLEQUARIAT: The Final Chronicle of the House of Plifk is many things. An exploration-based puzzle game with secrets around every corner, a tactical RPG with deterministic turn-based combat, an epic tale of adventure with a charming sense of humor, and a monument to one man's hubris.
Play as the mysterious hero Eshin and their companions on a quest to reclaim the sacred relic known as the Morlequariat of Threm from the treacherous fallen knights of the House of Plifk who appropriated it centuries ago.
When is the game releasing?
Demo versions release every two to three months on itch.io. The final version of the game is still some years away, though, because I have a day job.
How long have you been working on this?
I started brainstorming the game in August of 2018, but I was working on a masters degree at the time and wasn't able to start programming in earnest until I finished that in November of 2019.
Who did the artwork / music / etc?
Everything currently in the game was made by me, EpiglottalAxolotl. I have a few friends who help me figure out lore and write dialogue.
What engine is this game written in?
When I say "everything currently in the game was made by me", that includes the game engine also. It's written in C++, using the SFML libraries.
Why did you make your own engine for this?
Hubris and perfectionism, mostly. I tried some existing engines and didn't really like how they worked, and I have just enough experience writing low-level C++ code that I decided I'd rather create something from the ground up so that I could have more control over all aspects of the game and have more of an authentic retro feel.
